Gosh, your drawings are always so incredibly realistic, it's still hard to see whether it's a drawing or just a greyscale photo ;) Absolutely blown away by the detail in this; all those tiny little feathers in the neck, forming that stripy pattern, the endless pebbles and of course those fantastically realistic water reflections. Always a joy to see things from you in my inbox!

thanks very much for your kind comments on my art.

this piece was one of those 'landmark' pieces that happen every once in a while for me where I can really show whats possible with the humble pencil and enjoy re-creating all the wonderful textures of nature.

just returned from a month-long wildlife adventure in the far east so I hope there will be plenty of images for you to enjoy over the next year or so :-)

That sounds amazing, going to the far east. Did you go there to see wildlife? :) And it truly is amazing what you can accomplish with the 'simple' pencil. Seeing your pieces always makes my hands itch to try something myself haha. Such wonderful work you do :)

Oh that must be amazing! Glad to hear you've had a good time there :) Heard many good things about Thailand and might be going there myself coming summer - any 'must visits' in the country?

Thailand is always worth a visit, its very friendly and welcoming with so many amazing places to see its almost impossible to list them all.thailand really is a huge country and a great deal of time can be spent in travelling from place to place so planning is key.i stay with my family when I visit and fly on internal flights to some destinations whilst I drive to others.driving in Thailand is not for the faint hearted, its a scary business!.my favourite place is Krabi province in the south where there are fabulous beaches and landscapes as well as amazing islands to explore but all visitors should explore Bangkok for at least a couple of days, royal palace etc as well as crazy nightlife.golden rule:relax but not so much that common sense leaves you,it is a safe country if you're careful! I would buy a copy of lonely planet's guide to Thailand and plan from there.

Thanks so much for all the info; certainly handy to keep in mind for vacation planning :) The beaches really do look amazing, though nothing's been decided yet :D

thankyou,i long ago stopped counting the hours involved with graphite drawing as it just becomes a little depressing but in terms of time on my drawing board it was about 6 weeks work.the drawing is produced from observations and a series of photographs I took of the geese in the highlands of Scotland :-)

thankyou, its nice to employ the full repertoire of techniques now and again to portray all the differing textures and with water and reflections you never quite know until the very last pencil mark has covered the paper whether it will look fluid enough to be convincing or merely very technically drawn :-)

Ah, yes. It's very nice when a piece has a variety of things to challenge all areas of your technical skills. ;) And yes, I agree that that's the key--making it look "real" and not technical.
